How did DMX waste all its money?

DMX was once a thriving musician and actor, producing seven studio albums and appearing in a number of big movies. So where did it all go wrong?

Well, his financial troubles all started in 2008 when it was revealed he had two children outside of his marriage to Tashera Simmons. He was then forced to pay $ 1.5 million to the mother of those two children, Monique Wayne.

In total, DMX was the father of 15 children, which certainly put a strain on him financially, and he had to pay an exorbitant amount of child support. In 2015, he was even sentenced to six months in prison for non-payment of $ 400,000 in child support.

Things took a turn for the worse in 2013 when he filed for bankruptcy and listed only $ 50,000 in assets and between $ 1 million and $ 10 million in debt.

In 2017, he was also sentenced to one year in prison after being charged with 14 counts of tax evasion, and at the time he was in debt of $ 2.3 million.

Jay-Z has paid off some of his debt

In the early 2000s, DMX was already in serious financial trouble and his fellow rapper Jay-Z came to his aid.

DMX released their first five albums with the Def Jam label but wanted to leave the label and sign with Columbia Records in 2006.

Jay-Z helped him take the plunge by paying off his $ 12 million debt he owed Def Jam.
